Self Help Stuff
That works
The first time I used affirmations I was 7 years
old ... It just came to me naturally disguised as a 'dare' -- You see I had a
childish fantasy to travel to the moon, it was the mid 1970's, in a small
village like town in West Africa, I had never used a telephone, watched a TV or
even been to the movies -- I just found the full blown moon shining up the
night sky very alluring and I wanted to go there -- Well so all other challenges
of life failed in comparison -- every time I had to do something that I found
impossible in my little world, I would say to myself: "I am going to travel to
the moon, this is nothing, I can do it", and go ahead and do it -- 9 out of 10
times I would succeed.
Later on in life I used the same approach to
transition from a 'bottom-of-the-class' 'never-do-well' failure to a 'straight-A' student in
college, without really understanding how it worked. My favorites were: I can do
it, I will do it, I will succeed, I must succeed... repeated enough number of
times with enough energy, I found that I could ace any tests. And even later I
found myself 'ace-ing' job interviews using the same approach. All this
time I did not know any thing about 'personal self help' or how it worked. I
just knew what was working for me, and used it unthinkingly.
Much Much later in my life, I moved to Canada -
Vancouver, I used my same deterministic approach to land my first job in a
totally new place... But soon I ran into some challenges, and these repetitively
kept on showing up in my life... I was stuck in certain cycles, that kept on
showing up repetitively. I was frustrated, soon out of a job and unable to find
gainful employment, also facing some issues in my relationships. But now I had
access to a telephone, a computer, the internet, and all the gadgets that a
high-tech life takes for granted these days.
Surfing aimlessly on the internet, I accidentally
bumped into Russell H. Conwells 'Acres of Diamonds' -- I still remember that
day, it was my first official introduction to newage self help or positive
thinking material -- I found it so darn captivating, I read it in one sitting.
Then I re-read it one more time. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities
to me. It was like a light bulb going on in my mind.
I was now addicted to self help material and
read -- almost devoured-- everything I could lay my hands on. I spent long hours
at the well stocked public library, I read everything I could find on the
internet, I bought a lot of self help stuff ranging from books, ebooks, email
courses, software, tapes, cd's, mp3's, videos, movies; and I tried everything
ranging from affirmations, thought projections, positive thinking,
visualizations, subliminals, audio tapes and cd's, brain entrainment using
binaural beats, meditations, EFT, hypnosis, even quantum mechanics... every new
age self help toy I came across, I simply had to try it. It was kind of a
well, I was drowning in it deeper and deeper... in terms of time, in terms of
money, in terms of effort... my mind was totally addicted.
I found self help stuff that works, others that
are simply reinforcements of older works, others that depend on your personality
type-- I picked up something from everything -- for instance:
-
Dr. Wayne Dyers work helped me understand the
concept of 'unconditional love and forgiveness' - it helped me sort out and
release the negative self talk that was holding my mind hostage. That was
a big load off my mind.
-
Tony Robbins work "Awaken the Giant Within" - gave
me the concept of deep breathing, and healthy living, it helped me sort out some
of my health issues.
-
Shakti Gawain's 'Creative Visualization' and
another little known author whose name and title of work I have forgotten,
gave me the understanding of imagery and visualization for healing, and
creating. I have used visualizations for self healing.
-
Napolean Hill's Classic 'Think and Grow Rich' -- I
read it once, though full of wisdom, it did not fire my personal creative juices
and I could not bring myself to read it again, even though it has worked for
countless others.
-
Bob Proctor's work highly inspiring gave me the
understanding of how to pay myself first.
-
Robert Kiyosaki's 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' gave me an
understanding of finances to some extent.
-
T. Harv Eker's Millionaire Mind book help me
understand the relationship with money.
-
Robert Allen's "No Money Down" and other works -
Gave me an idea of how real estate and finances work.
-
Joe Vitale's "There is a Customer Born Every
Minute" -- Totally readable.
-
Wallace Wattles 'Science of Getting Rich' - I have
read and listened to it over and over again, it gave me the way to develop
belief, attitude of gratitude and to rely upon my creativity rather than
competition - I almost know every word of it by heart -- You can read my
personal journey with it and grab a free audio

-
Stuart Lichtman's
How to Make Lots of Money for anything Fast - Free ecourse It has worked for
over 50,000 people, however I feel that it requires you to be hard wired to the
left side of your brain -- the analytical -- side. It was a bit too techie for
me. But it may work for techie geeks.
Similarly, I have studied countless other authors-
both ancient, classical and newage, too numerous to list here. But as I said
earlier I picked up something from everyone, and I am totally grateful and thank
each of them from the bottom of my heart.
Now you understand my back ground in self help
material. I do not recommend anything lightly. But what I do recommend is --
