Do you consider yourself talented enough, capable enough or deserving enough to get what you want? or do you feel that because you are not talented enough, you do not deserve to get what you so deeply wish for in some of your oh so sane 'insane moments'.
But then you just need to be motivated enough to be able to drive yourself to cultivate the talent or capabilities you need, this will push up your deserve-ability for what you so desire. Isn't that how everything works...

And then you might feel like: " even though I work very hard I don't get the rewards I deserve"...
Even though I work very hard, and start achieving some level of success, but some thing always happens to sabotage my progress and brings me back to ground zero or from where I started. I can't get very far -- I am unlucky -- I never get what I deserve
Even though I work very hard, yet my performance is always mediocre, and hence I find mediocre results / rewards ... I am not capable enough or talented enough.
OR any other combination of statements that spell the big ' L-O-O-S-E-R '.
It all falls back to how you persuade yourself and others. You may be doing a lot of things but not enough of the right things, hence the mediocre results.
You simply need to change your focus from: "Why me - why the mediocre results" to "How can I stop myself from wasting my time and efforts on things that don't matter and start focusing on things that do matter?"
The persuasion dynamics here is quite obvious isn't it?
You can choose to either:
Lead or be lead , control or be controlled, manage or be managed, drive or be driven, compel or be compelled , dominate or be dominated...
The above dualities describe several innuendos of human relationship dynamics, for instance:
In fact, actual persuasion dynamics can be quite complicated. It could even be a mish-mash combination of the above.
You might be following in certain aspects of your life and leading in others. And that's okay. It's not healthy to lead or control in all situations. Sometimes it's okay to be influenced by others. Balance is essential as in all other aspects of a successful life and career.
Yet a vast majority of the world population is being driven instead of being in the drivers seat. They are being driven by money, by fear, by hate , by anger, by false egos, by greed, by jealousy and other human eccentricities.
Yet who wouldn't want to be in charge of their own life? To be in control, to get what ever good they want for themselves and others. To have balance in all areas of your life, you need to be able to convince and persuade not only yourself but others as well. You need to learn some essential basics about how to persuade others or get the right tools to persuade and motivate yourself in the right direction.
