Driving in Canada - Vancouver BC:
Unless you plan to live in the downtown
core area where you are close to buses or sky train stations, you will
need to get a car and be able to drive around. Else you waste a lot of
time in commuting up and down.
It is very common for people to be
living in one city and working in another. By bus the commute time can
take really long. You will have to do changeovers in between as there may
be no direct links along your route.
For instance at my current job, I was
spending 1.5 hours traveling to and 1.5 hours traveling back... 3 hours
commute time every day!
Not to mention, standing in the snow, cold, pouring rain...
all kinds of weather waiting for the bus.
At the end you may not even
get a seat in the bus. You may have to travel 45 minutes, hanging on,
standing up and not get a seat.
Also you may have to include some walking to
get from your home to the bus stop. You need to be very punctual so as not
to miss your bus/sky train connections.
I know people who have even longer
commutes. Such long commutes can waste your time, detract from your
productivity personal life, and even work life.
Your health may even be
impacted... Standing out in all kinds of weather, and then
being packed together with all kinds of people. Colds, flues and viruses
spread very fast this way and are common occurrence.
So your first
priority... pass your driving test and get a license.
Otherwise I have seen
people limiting their job options just because they are not able to drive
and not strong/determined enough to be able to handle the long commutes. Get mobile.
