Menopause and
Menstruation / Menopause and Period
As explained earlier in
Know Menopause , when a girl is
born she already has all the eggs that she will ever produce in her life
time. These eggs are stored in the female body as cells in a premature
state. Once a girl reaches puberty, and her ovaries start producing
hormones, several of these cells start maturing and the final matured egg
passes out as bleeding or menstrual period. This process is repeated
regularly every 28 days period or so for the rest of her life until she hits
menopause around the average age of 45 - 50 years.
During menopause, menstruation cycles, length of menstruation and volume of flow
start varying from the regular. The menstruation cycles may become longer
or shorter than the average of 28 days or may even disappear for periods of time.
Also the volume of flow reduces, hence earlier if your menstrual bleeding
lasted for 5 whole days, now it grows less and less. Also spotting could occur
in between periods.
This is because hormone production
starts slowing down and fluctuates considerably. These fluctuating hormones
affect the maturing of the remaining eggs in the woman. Hence this results
in fluctuations in the Menopause Period and Bleeding.
In fact, irregularity in the menstrual
cycle is usually one of the earliest indicators of the onset of menopause.
Technically, Menopause is
reached or over or completed or finished once a women has not menstruated or had
a period for twelve consecutive months.
