Wild
Flower - A Wild Flower Bouquet for Happiness
All
strains of flowers originally grew in the wild. Yes even the most
celebrated, domesticated and widely used/grown flowers were
at one time nothing better than wild flowers growing untended in the jungle.
What attracted man to flowers was un-presumably first the
scent, then the colors followed by shapes. Just like
butterflies, bees and birds, the basic instincts of scent and
color were the most dominant. Then of course man's natural talents
took over and flowers started being characterized by shapes,
scents and colors.
Myths
and meanings were attached to these natural phenomenon. Flowers
started being used on ceremonial occasions, special shapes were
given special meanings. There were flowers that marked birth,
flowers that marked death, flowers and colors that marked romance,
seduction, flirtation, happiness, sadness, spirituality, money and what not.
Yes there were even flowers to ward of spirits and other evil
influences Or to appease gods and deities.
With these
requirements, the need for bulk production grew and flowers
started being farmed and marketed. as early as the
ancient Egyptians, Queen Cleopatra is known to have
used the lotus flower in her bath water and the lotus
oil as a scent.
In
Moghul India, queen NoorJehan had rose petals sprinkled in her
bath water pool. That's how she noticed the oily condensates
forming in her water and started the line of rose scents popularly
known as 'Attar' in India. Similarly Jasmine, another heavily
scented flower has seen some famous roles in history.
That's
how wild flowers were domesticated and are now part of a thriving
flower Trade in the 21st century. Here Nederlands plays a major
role in farming, domesticating and marketing flowers.
Wild
flowers of today include dandelions, bluebells, butterfly weed,
bloodroot, purple corn flower, spiderwort, cardinal flower,
honeysuckle, foxglove, red campion, celandine, forget me not,
primrose, ladies smock and a whole lot more.
It
is interesting to note that several of these so called wild
flowers are presently being used in exotic flower arrangements
such as wild flower arrangement for wedding or other parties,
herbal remedies and nutritional supplements. They are even being
specially grown for commercial use. Yes most garden centers now
sell wild flowers and wild flower seeds. The spontaneity of wild
flower's is no longer a guarantee. They are being tamed too.
