Marketing ResearchHow To find anything you are looking for over the internet
How To find anything you are looking for over the internet or how to search the internet:The internet is so huge, scary and unpredictable, But it is teeming full of gold nuggets of information. But how do you ‘fish’ for information in this huge wild sea and capture the right species, First you have to use the right technique followed by the right bait. Here’s how you do it: 1.First you should come up with relevant search terms or keywords specific to your topic. Say if you are searching for jobs, your keywords would be jobs, careers, employment. Or if you are searching for a person say John Smith 2. If you are using single words to make your search , you just need to enter your word and press the search button to get all the results available. But if you want to get more specific and use multiple words, for example if you are using the words American economy, you need to enclose this phrase in parentheses like this: "American Economy" – here your search returns only those web pages containing this phrase together, otherwise it will return all the pages containing either of these terms as well as any combinations of these terms. 3. Now if you want to get even more specific, say you want to target your search to a particular geographical region, or by language, or by a certain word, then most search engines enable an advanced search option, this link is usually available at the top or bottom of the search page. 4.Where do you start your Search? Here I find Google at www.google.com to be one of the best, it is not only huge database, but it’s searches are used by other major engines like Yahoo too. Hence most major websites are usually registered with Google. Also it enables advanced search and ‘search within results’ features giving you more control and diversification. You can narrow down your search and get as focused as you want. 5.Another search engine with useful features is www.dogpile.com, it delivers results from all the major search engines at the same time, so you can be sure you are not missing out on anything. 6.To give you a very brief insight on the goldmine of information you are sitting on and how to use it, Lets consider an example: Say if you want to import honey from North America, well just go to google.com and make a search for the term honey – this will give you all the webpages containing this term. Next scroll down to the bottom of the search results page and click on the ‘search within results’ link. Since you want to pinpoint your search to North America only, type "North America" in the search within results search box. This gives you all the webpages containing the term ‘North America’ within the Honey results. Now since you are looking for exporters, again scroll down to the bottom to search within results for exporters. Then of course you can go as deep as you want. You will come across themed directories listing sites of common interest, You will come across webrings of interest, you will come across discussion forums, you will find pointers to other information goldmines. The results are simply staggering. So what are you searching for, you will definitely find it on the web. You can use this procedure to do online marketing research, search for any information, internet marketing, even to find a job.... your imagination is the limit. ----------------------------------------------------- The Author Shahnaz Rauf is a prolific writer with vast experience and interests.
