 Imagine Yourself Laughing...
 You have heard something so funny that you just cannot stop laughing...
 It starts with a slight rumble in your throat, your face lights up with a wide smile, and then you burst into laughter. Real uncontrollable laughter.

 It echoes and rumbles right in your tummy...
 You hold your sides while you laugh almost bent over with total mirth... You simply cannot stop laughing... You laugh until the tears flow out of your eyes...

 Well if you can imagine the laughter described here, then you can definitely imagine yourself Happy. You can also imagine yourself Healthy, brimming with confidence and loaded with super self esteem... You can imagine yourself relaxed and full of joy...

 

Laughter as a Medicine - Laughter Therapy

Norman Cousins had a problem. He suffered from a very painful debilitating illness. Doctors said that he had only one chance in 500 for recovery. He was immersed into the world of gross medication and had to cope with their excessive side effects. He got totally miserable.
 This state of affairs continued day after day until he got  sick and tired of being sick and tired.  He stopped all conventional medication and went home. He decided to go into self therapy using alternate approaches.
 A major part of which was laughter. Cousin’s had a complete recovery. He later wrote in one of his widely published books, and I quote:

 " Ten minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give me at least two hours of pain-free sleep."

It is no wonder, in India today there are at least five hundred 'Laughing Clubs'. The use of laughter as a natural healing therapy is spreading fast... That's why I urge you to laugh. 

       Today, almost all of us have suffered from
  • Sleeplessness

  • Stress – This may be work related, due to an unhealthy lifestyle, or just by listening to the news... stories of war, death, devastations, diseases, crimes etc.

  • High blood pressure

  • High cholesterol

  • Cancers are on the rise.

  • Asthma and allergies are on the rise

  • Heart disease is very common

  • Weight has become a big issue.

  • By the end of this century at least 17 Million North Americans are expected to be suffering from Alzheimer's or other brain diseases.

 The concept of laughter as the best medicine or therapy has now been well researched by doctors and scientists:

  • Laughter strengthens your immune system.

  • Increases your intellectual performance and boosts information retention.

  • releases natural killer cells which destroy tumours and viruses

  • Increases disease fighting antibodies.

  • Lowers blood pressure.

  • Reduces stress by inducing instant relaxation

  • Protects the heart.

  • A healthy dose of laughter gives our bodies a good work out… It is estimated that hearty laughter can burn calories equivalent to several minutes on the rowing machine or the exercise bike

  • Other effects are better relationships/united families.

  • Makes you feel good about yourself by improving your self esteem.

  • It is a potent emotional medication.

There have been confirmed uses of Laughter for therapeutic purposes by breast Cancer patients and people suffering from allergies.

 Imagine yourself... You have had a hard day at work, meeting impossible deadlines dictated by your 'f@#*' boss. On the way home you get stuck in an hour long traffic jam. By the time you reach home, your head is throbbing, you park your car and slowly make your way in, only to find your phone ringing off the hook. Thinking it might be an emergency, since your wife is not home yet, you run and grab the phone... only to find it is a telemarketer selling a long distance plan... You explode into the phone...your mood gets bad for the rest of the evening. This is an every day occurrence for a lot of people.

On the other hand, imagine yourself stuck in the same traffic, now you are listening to some tapes and cds full of jokes or that uplift your mood, and laughing all along. The time passes very fast. Your head ache is almost gone, and when you answer that jarring ring of the phone at home, you simply tell off the telemarketer politely, and enjoy the rest of the evening with your family having a good time.

 Hey, cool down. You so need to relax... Laugh.
 Find some humorous books, watch some funny movies. Crack some Jokes or just plain relax. Laugh.

Laughter Therapy Tip:

  1.  You can either find some thing funny to help you laugh... or force yourself to laugh unnaturally and keep doing forced laughter until hysteria or mirth naturally takes over and you simply cannot stop laughing. Continue laughing for at least 5 - 10 minutes.

  2. If you can practice laughter in a group - the more the better - because laughter is infective, hence it will be easier to laugh.

  3. If you are using laughter as a therapy than laugh continuously for at least 15 minutes every day.

  4. Also follow the rules of healthy living:  exercise regularly ; eat healthy; drink lots of water.

  5. Eliminate stress from your life - Either meditation or stress relief tapes are quite effective.

  6. Keep happy or joyful thoughts in your mind all the time.

  7. Listen to some positive tapes and CD's regularly: Listen Your Way to Health &  Success!
