How To Find Your Dream Job in 7 Simple Steps
How To Find Your Dream Job in 7 Simple Steps:I have used the technique outlined here 3 times in a row and in 2 different countries and continents of the world. Each time I got my targeted professional job against heavy odds. I worked at one job for 7 straight years, other I worked for 5 months, before I quit for my own personal reasons, and the third one I am just starting. 1.Prepare Your ResumeYour resume should comply with the following basic categories, order of presentation is important. Another tip is to keep it short –2 pages max –in fact you may prepare a short version and a complete version where you give more details. Send the initial application with the short version, in the cover letter you can state that the more detailed resume, references etc. can be provided if required. -your name, address phone no. and email address -Your objective, [for eg: Looking for a position in sales, customer service,…etc] -Your Skills or highlights of qualities/experience [for eg. Excellent writing skills, Good knowledge of marketing skills, Excellent communication and presentation skills, Good command of computer usage ,Capable of team work ,multi tasking and highly motivated]. -Your work experience starting with the most recent . -Your education, starting with the highest qualification. Save your resume as a: - A formatted word document [to be printed out and posted as required and also to be sent as an email attachment- here it is important to save this file with your own name, if your name is jhon Robinson, your word document should be saved as johnrobinson.doc to enable easy retrieval if sent online], - It should also be saved as an unformatted text document, to be sent as an inline email or posted through online forms, this should be formatted to 60 characters per line to comply with the standards of most email services. Talking of resume retrieval in case of online applications, it would be good to be prepared with a set of keywords that best describe your job requirements, because those companies using online systems use soft wares to search for relevant jobs in their database, this search is keyword based. 2.Prepare Your Cover Letter – again this should be both formatted and unformatted text to 60 characters. What you write here is extremely important, this may be the single most important factor that determines whether your resume is even read or not.-Your Name and contact information should be right at the top. -Address of the prospective employer -followed by the usual business letter format -it should have a bold or underlined subject line stating the position you are applying for or the reference no. etc. -The first paragraph should state the position you are applying for and how you came to know of this vacancy – just about 2 to 3 lines. -2nd and 3rd paragraphs should be devoted to your skills and qualifications/ experience. And how you can be useful to them, Keep it short and punchy. [Here answer the question What is unique about your past experience that will be beneficial to the company or why should the company select you over other equally qualified candidates]. -4th paragraph –tell them your brief resume is attached further details, references etc can be provided if required. Tell them you are looking forward to meet with them to demonstrate your personality better. Close in the usual business format. The cover letter should be short, maximum one page only. 3.Search for suitable jobs or places of work-Go to www.google.com, make a search for the word ‘careers’, scroll to the bottom of search results page. click on ‘search within results’, type in your city and province or state for ex "richmond, bc", this should be enclosed in parentheses; Now you can check all the results to find suitable places for you to work Or you can get even more specific and further search within results for your area of interest for example ‘engineering’. Next, Open a word document and start copying and pasting the addresses of all the places you think as being good prospects for job application, also note down the web page address of each, any special instructions for prospective job applicants etc. [Don’t worry if you don’t find any jobs that match your interest, if you think the business/company is a good place for you to work anyway, you can always send in an open application. Repeat the procedure for the terms 'employment' and 'jobs'. You may also check some career related sites. 4.Customize your resume and cover letter to match each job profile.-Say if you are going for a sales position, then emphasize the qualities required by such a job, -Copy and paste the address for each job in the cover letter 5.Apply for all your short listed positions –apply to as many places as you possibly can. Send an online application to places that specifically require it. For others you can post it through normal mail. 6.Polish up your interview skills while you are waiting for responses.
7.Go and grab the job of your dreamsWhen you get your interview call, find out as much about the company as you can, no. of employees, products, usual wages etc. and prepare a few intelligent questions you can ask the interviewer as well.
