Though depression is ascribed to neuro-chemical imbalances in the brain /mind and is considered a clinical condition, here are a few considerations you need to keep in view -

-- Just like laughter releases healthy endorphins into the brain, making a person feel better, and has been known to cure people of serious illnesses and even cancer, similarly there are other states of mind such as excessive worrying, stress, tension, anger, anxiety, these states release 'unhealthy chemicals' into the mind and the body -- As these build up over time , they ultimately lead to 'clinical depression'.

Anti-depressants or drugs that are used to treat clinical depression -  treat the chemical balances but do not resolve the deep-down mind states that keep on releasing the unhealthy chemicals into the mind in the first place. Therefore the use of anti-depressants becomes an on-going habit, as they simply provide a stop-gap solution.

 The anti-depressant neutralizes the 'unhealthy chemicals' and the person feels good for a while. Then the deep-down inner-core issues raise their ugly heads again and produce some more of the 'unhealthy chemicals'... and the process keeps on repeating... going on and on in circles -- Do you get the picture?

What's more,  the long term use of these anti-depressant medication introduces foreign side effects into the body of the 'victim' and simply pushes them into more ill-health or sickness.

To really cure depression, you need to treat not only the top of the icing chemical imbalances but also the  way deep-down inner issues afflicting the person's mind and health.

10. Start your day with appreciation and thankfulness: As soon as you wake up every morning: In your mind or slowly to yourself, say 'Thank you God for another beautiful day', 'Thank you God for another happy day', 'Thank you God for another healthy day', 'Thank you God for... '. Build up your own list of things to be thankful for. In fact, you might try repeating this mantra as many times as you get an opportunity in your day.
