Worry can be a challenge because Worry
comes disguised as care...
Has your kid reached school safely? Did you lock
the house when you left home?, will your husband return home safely without
getting into a car accident? What if there is a fire in the night while you are
in deep sleep... will you be able to get out safe? What if I fail? What if I am
not able to repay my loans? What if I lose my Job? What if my partner cheats on
me? What if I am not able to deliver on time?... say you go on a shopping trip,
instead of focusing on the shopping, you are focused on the safety of your home
and are not able to enjoy yourself...
Excessive worrying can ruin your life... first
you start stressing, then you stop sleeping, you lose the ability to think
clearly... becoming unfocused and confused, then you start experiencing other
health problems... stress, anxiety, nervous disorders, stomach ailments,
arthritis, high blood pressure and cholesterol, heart disease, skin problems, a
weakened immune system and this could even lead to cancer or tumours.... the
list grows endless.
Most ordinary people who are advised to stop
worrying, are almost resistant to the idea of stopping worry... they blame it on
nature, they blame it on their sensitivity, they blame it on their caring and
concerned attitude... they are not ready to accept the fact that they have the
power to stop worrying if they want to.

immediately notice the positive impact on your life. So Here's how to stop worrying:
1.
Analyze your problem... Use a pen and
paper... write it down... because there is something in writing down stuff that
brings out totally unknown angles and ideas that were previously in the darkness
of your mind. Here is what to write down:
a. What is the Problem?... What
are you worrying about?
b. What is the cause of the
problem?
c. What are the possible solutions
to this problem... write down all possible solutions that can be done
irrespective of whether you can do them or not.
d. What are you going to do about
it... Which solution are you going to do.
e. When are you going to start
working on it.
2. Pay attention to the tasks
that need to be done this very day and start doing them... Don't think about
anything that happened in the past. Don't think of anything that could possibly
happen in the future... Yes... shut out yesterday and tomorrow... focus on the
today... What needs to be done today and do it...
3. If you are faced with a
serious problem, here is what to do:
a. Ask yourself... What is the
worst that can happen? Say if you are going for a mammogram, and worried about
it... think about what is the worst that can possibly happen... you could be
diagnosed with cancer and you could die. Okay re-inforce yourself mentally to
accept this possibility if it happens at all.
b. Prepare for the worst. And then
stop worrying and start living... What does this mean, in our previous
scenario.. of you having cancer and dieing, so prepare for death... go and
update your will and set your affairs in order... then stop worrying, put death
out of your mind... what will happen will happen... and pay attention to living
the present day happily.
4. Take one-day-at-a-time or
one-step-at-a-time. What will happen will happen; what has happened, has
happened; you can't change either of these... so don't waste your energy on
them... Today is what matters... live it to the fullest...
5. Immerse yourself in
an activity that will exhaust you both physically and mentally... Get as
active as you can to push out all thoughts of worry from your mind. This could
be a job that keeps you busy, some kind of work even if voluntary... Get active.
Keep busy.
6. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Life is too short to be little. Stop worrying, fighting over or wasting your
energies on trivialities. Chances are that no one will even notice the small
things that you are so worrying about. 'What will aunt Martha say?', 'What will
the Joneses say?' ... They don't matter... so don't worry.
7. By Statistics or 'law of
averages' the chances that what you are worrying about will ever happen are
almost zero... Since what you are worrying about will never happen.. why worry?
Eliminate the worrying thoughts from your mind... simply refuse to think along
those lines.
8. Let go and let God... If
any thought worries you... know that God always does the best for you... so let
go and let God. Stop worrying.
9. Replace Worrying thoughts
with healthy thoughts... remember your brain is just like a computer... you
can erase any thoughts you don't like and replace them with thoughts that are
healthy and happy... pay attention to your thoughts, as soon as you catch
yourself on worrisome thoughts... take a deep breath, say "Eliminate" out loud,
imagine yourself drawing a big red cross against those thoughts and start
thinking something happy... if you will repeat this enough number of times...
you will be able to develop a habit to stop worrying and start living.
